Grapenut's Wine Places - Portofino, Italy

"For decades,
Portofino was
Italy's premiere
seaside resort town.
This tiny multicolored village and its
miniature cove are still among the
most beautiful spots
on earth, and certainly no traveler to Liguria
should miss the sight."

Years ago, I traveled to Europe a month at a time on business.
One of my destinations was the Italian subsidiary in Genoa.
I would spend days with Mr. Fusco who was very protective and
would not let me explore his city by myself. I spent morning,
day & evening with him. We would arrive around 7AM and
 leave for dinner at 7PM.

One night he was very secretive as to where we were going.
We drove out of Genoa, thru the mountains and finally came back
to the Mediterranean seashore and continued along a narrow road
thru little fishing villages, until we finally arrived at what has got to  be one of the most beautiful places in the world - Portofino.

The homes were
 multi-colored and
the small cove was  filled with yachts and people dressed  in their light summer colors
walked the
boardwalk.
 We had dinner
 on the boardwalk
 and enjoyed the
 Pasta al Pesto
 (see recipe link below) and
fresh seafood.

 The wine was white, cool
and delicious
 but I haven't
the slightest
clue as to
what it was.

 A magical evening.

 Thank You,
Mr. Fusco.

One of my main responsibilities on my visit to Genoa was to bring back Pesto Sauce for our Executive Vice-President.

"Ligurians almost make a religion of their devotion to pesto sauce and its main ingredient, fresh basil. While they generally favor fresh herbs in their cooking, it is basil that inspires the most interest."
